Don’t use an alcohol-based sanitizer. Use organic non-alcoholic health and environment based sanitizer. It may result in the deadly problems of Alcoholic poisoning. Moreover, It causes skin drying and irritation. The solution to COVID-19 may bring other serious problems.
Will it be acceptable if the solution to pandemic COVID 19 – Sanitizing hand with alcoholic sanitizer leads to another deadly problem of Alcoholic poisoning?
No! Be conscious of its usage!
The commercialization of Alcoholic sanitizers increased with pandemic COVID-19. Although, these products are effective in killing the virus. We should discourage the use of alcoholic sanitizer because it contains 60-80% alcohol. In addition to it, Alcohol sanitizer causes skin drying and irritation. Therefore, there is a need for a non-flammable hand sanitizer which is mild to the skin. A sanitizer should be non-toxic, health-friendly and effective at killing germs.
Effectiveness of alcohol sanitizer
Alcohol-based sanitizer is effective only in a clean environment. Therefore, it can only kill germs of sanitary environments like a hospital. The research reports that they cannot kill the virus in soiled or greased hands. When people use it after playing, working on the field, traveling in dust areas, it’s not sufficient enough to kill germs. That is why, alcohol-based sanitizer is not efficient always.
Reasons you should not use an alcohol sanitizer
- The toxic alcohol if inhaled or shallowed even accidentally leads to alcoholic poisoning that is a serious and deadly issue.
- The alcohol-based sanitizer can cause drying of your skin.
- Alcohol is flammable so it may cause a fire if comes in contact with other combustible substances.
- The toxic alcoholic sanitizer is volatile. Therefore, it evaporates to toxify the environment.
- The effectiveness of alcoholic sanitizer is effective to clean environments.
The solution to the problem
Washing hands with soap and water are the best way of cleaning and disinfecting hands. No sanitizer can beat washing hands with quality soap and water. The use of soap and water makes effective disinfection with soiled and greased hands. They keep our hands clean and also kill the germs. This needs running water. What if there is no running water?
Is alcohol-based sanitizer, the only solution left? – No, You must use organic non-alcoholic sanitizer- non-toxic, healthy, skin-friendly and efficient. Are the ordinary sanitizer made in home efficient-No, as it may not be ample enough to kill germs and viruses? The formulation of organic non-alcoholic sanitizer is of today’s need.
Literature review on the non-alcoholic sanitizer
Micheal Yau-Chi proposed the invention of a non-alcoholic sanitizer in January 2003. It consists of an antimicrobial agent, water-soluble silicone, humectant(moisturizer) and water. This invention was non-flammable and could disinfect the surface rapidly. This sanitizer consists of the microbial agents not limited to quaternary ammonium compounds, phenolic based compounds, and their mixtures. According to Micheal, We can use the sanitizer in the face and skin with minimized side effects. The sanitizer proposed by Micheal Yau-Chi consists of the water-soluble silicone that makes the sanitizer spreads to every corner of the hand. It helps to prevent from drying of the skin. It was able to kill different bacteria and viruses tested in 2003.Get the research paper here
Proposed Idea on the non-alcoholic sanitizer
We can use this invention to prevent COVID-19. We can also enhance the invention by adding ingredients like cinnamon and aloe vera. In addition, these herbals provides additional care to our skin. It also adds up to non-toxicity, environment-friendly and efficient sanitizer.
A natural aqueous extract from a cinnamon bark (Cinnamon sp.) has antiviral activity against enveloped viruses. It can disinfect influenza A, Parainfluenza (Sendai) virus and HSV-1 viruses. Besides, The research reports that the cinnamon extract can disinfect the dengue virus also. The sanitizer is meaningful because of its efficiency to kill many viruses. There is much ongoing research to find it out.
Furthermore, the research reports the aloe vera to show inhibitory effects against many viruses such as human cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2), and poliovirus. Consequently, we need to test the potentiality of aloe vera for COVID-19 retention.
Apart from aloe vera and cinnamon, ginger, camphor, neem are anti-viral, anti-bacterial reagents. The addition of these substances will surely benefit the present sanitizer.
To sum up, the excessive use of alcohol-based sanitizer may lead to deadly alcohol poisoning. Firstly, It will toxify the environment. Secondly, it will dry our skin and cause a miserable situation in the long run. Therefore, there is a need for a non-flammable hand sanitizer which is mild to the skin. Therefore, we need a sanitizer that is non-toxic, health-friendly and effective at killing germs. We can formulate the sanitizer by customizing the idea of Micheal Yau-Chi. The customization of his idea with the addition of antiviral and antibacterial herbs would be more efficient than the sanitizer available today. It could help us in solving the deadly problem of Alcohol poisoning.
